On 21 September Bro Ewan Rutherford (Deputy Grand Master and Governor) and Bro Alan Dickson (Grand Secretary) travelled to Winnipeg for the Inter-provincial meeting of the Western Provinces of Canada. This comprises the Provinces of British Columbia and Yukon, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba.

On Thursday 22nd, the Provincial Secretary, Bruce Taylor, took Ewan and Alan on a drive on the plains up to the lakes. This is real hunting, fishing, and shooting country and the vast landscape was a sight to behold. The trip included a visit to the town of Gimili, Lake Winnipeg for lunch with fish from the lake!

In the evening Ewan and Alan attended a lovely BBQ style dinner at the home of the Provincial Grand Master with a few of his senior team.

On the Friday during the day the Provincial Grand Master, Thor Weidenbacher, took Ewan and Alan on a tour of the sites of Winnipeg, including the old Forts and the modern Human Rights Museum.

In the evening Ewan and Alan attended a Meet and Greet evening, where everyone got a chance for a relaxed convivial evening.

Sat 24 September 2022 the meeting was held at the Hilton Suites Airport Hotel, Winnipeg starting at 10am and finishing at 4pm (with a break for a nice short lunch). The work included:

  • The Advancement and Perfection of five candidates (four from Manitoba one from Saskatchewan)
  • Bro. Ewan Rutherford, Deputy Grand Master and Governor, installed Bro. Thor Weidenbacher, as Provincial Grand Master for the Province of Manitoba
  • Bro. Ewan Rutherford, Deputy Grand Master and Governor, also presented a Charter of Confirmation to Bro. Doug Easton, the Provincial Grand Master of British Columbia and Yukon.

After the meeting there was a cocktail reception prior to an excellent banquet concluding the day. Unfortunately, The Provincial Grand Master, Thor Weidenbacher, was unable to attend as after the meeting he turned unwell and was sorely missed at the dinner.

On Sunday Bro. Ewan and Bro. Alan were treated to a visit to a “Classic Car” get together. Ewan was in his element and loved looking over all the old cars.

Both Bro. Ewan and Bro. Alan want to put on record their thanks to Bruce Taylor (Secretary) and Thor Weidenbacher (Provincial Grand Master) for looking after them extremely well; the hospitality shown to them was first class and very generous! Well done to Bruce, Thor and team Manitoba for a wonderful few days.
